Marion has worked in all facets of commercial real estate for over twenty years, and has an in-depth knowledge of property and construction management, leasing, property and partnership accounting and asset management arising from extensive hands-on experience in all these disciplines.
Originally with J. Volckmann & Associates, later JMA Properties, in Cupertino, California, she worked in various capacities including acquisitions, property and construction management, leasing and finance. She served as Controller and later Vice President of Asset Management during a period when the company increased its managed assets by over 2 million square feet and its employee base from 10 to over 60 employees. During this time she developed marketing and renovation plans for acquisitions being repositioned in the marketplace. Property types included downtown and garden office projects, industrial and neighborhood retail.
She provided property and construction management and leasing services to Rees Properties in Mountain View, California. She had key responsibility for developing and maintaining relationships with brokers and tenants in order to maintain at or near 100% occupancy levels in one of the most challenging leasing markets the industry has ever seen: the post “dot-com” bubble in Silicon Valley, where vacancy rates approached 50% in some submarkets.
During this time, she was also a managing member of TJM Capital Partners, which profitably invested in both office and apartment properties. She had primary responsibility for ongoing investor communications and management oversight, and shared due diligence, fund raising and other syndication responsibilities with her partners.
Marion and her husband Alex organized their first private offerings together in 2005 with the acquisition of two office buildings in downtown Reno. They completed an extensive renovation of both buildings, and have been able to place permanent financing on the first of these after having increased occupancy from 35% at close of escrow to 98%.
Marion graduated from the University of Santa Clara with a B.A. in Finance. She is conversant in Spanish and French. She is a member of the board of Design Response, an organization working with the design and construction communities to improve the environment of non-profit agencies serving needy individuals in the San Francisco Bay area. She is a member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), and the Reno Downtown Improvement Association (DIA).
